Upcycled Mailbox For The Kids
My youngest son has a lot of enthusiasm for going to check the mail. I guess it's the "being a grownup" aspect of it. So I decided to take some things from "the stash" to make him a mailbox of his own on his fort.
Now, who can deny the nostalgic appeal of an old lunchbox. We had so many of them growing up but probably don't have any of them anymore. I had this one lunchbox that I was going to make a birdhouse out of, but it fit the need for this much better I thought. It also needed a flag to raise when there was mail inside. Maybe mom can put something special in there from time to time and raise the flag to bring instant enthusiasm. I modified a piece from a dismantled antique typewriter, sanded it and painted it. Mounting it was just a quick nut and blot job with some loctite to hold the bolt in place but still give some leeway of movement. Then, I placed another bolt behind the vertical flag to catch it and stop it at the top.
