What secrets does this overhauled sewing machine cabinet hold???
The back looks normal.........
Ahhhh! I created a storage box inside the cabinet where the "guts" used to be. I used an old aluminum catering tray and some old square yardsticks surround the opening. I created a faux label that adorns the inside of the top lid.
But there's more!....
The secret compartment is the old sewing storage drawer. I also created a shelf inside to utilize all that space better. I modified some ornate molding/trim to make a nice front edge for the shelf.
Now, to back up a bit. After gutting the old components (broken), I made some small repairs and prepped the surface for the first coats of paint. I used Annie Sloan chalk paint on this project first starting with Arles Orange in two coats over the whole piece. Next I laid on two coats of ASCP in the color Florence (my new favorite). After all the painting, I wet sanded all the detail in for the distressing phase. I used one of those 3M green scouring thin pads. They are my new best friends. Lastly, I waxed it with clear and dark Annie Sloan wax and then buffed. Now it's ready for a new home and on the market!
